"I believe that Vazov's story "Chichovtsi" is one of the
most ingenious texts written in Bulgarian. And a great opportunity to delve once again into what we call national psychology" - says the director. "Chichovtsi" is a bit-humorous novel by Ivan Vazov from 1884-1885.
In the first edition of the story the motto Wild hawthorn, pythrum grapes do not give birth. This pessimism leads us to the idea that the heroes will be the little people united in the social category of uncles. The novella communicates with Under the Yoke as many of the characters are transported through its pages. The setting of both is Sopot.
This novella is a kind of parody of pre-Revolutionary Bulgarian society, recreating the lifestyle, thinking and relationships of a small town in the 1860s."
